After booking a holiday, you need to check out the best travel insurance online and make sure you get the best cover possible from a reputable company for the cheapest price, as you never purchase your insurance from the holiday company as it's usually very expesensive.

Too Expensive

After looking at travel insurance quotes from all of these companies listed above, I was surprised to see how many of them charge a really high price for their travel insurance, this included companies such as Marks and Spencer Travel Insurance, Endsleigh Travel Insurance and Columbus Travel Insurance.

Cheap but not enough cover

Then there are other travel insurance companies who seem to be cheap, but once you look into the small print of the policy a lot of areas are not covered which I feel are really important such as Baggage and Valuables cover, as well as Passport, Travel Documents and Personal Money.

With baggage cover you can claim compensation if your baggage is lost, stolen or damaged as long as you don't leave your bags unattended. You can also receive a payment if your bags are delayed for usually more than 12 hours - that is if the airline has lost them and not put them on the flight.

If you book your holiday lastminute then you may need instant travel insurance cover, a lot of the companies I looked at only provide cover up to a number of days before your departure date, this could mean that you cannot use these companies. Buy Travel Insurance as a group

Overall the best travel insurance company appears to be Travel Insurance Online, as they have great prices, 3 good levels of cover which give you the choice of how much cover you want, Travel Insurance Online policies are also supplied and underwritten by AXA Insurance who are a big name in the insurance world, so this gives you piece of mind. They also offer Instant Cover.

Another nice point about Travel Insurance Online is that once you have purchased your instant cover they send you an SMS text message detailing your policy and giving you the emergency phone number to use, which is good as then you already have the phone number on your mobile.
