should you get free talktalk broadband

Talk Talk has just released a new option of free broadband forever, but is it really that good? Is it cheaper than BT? Should you swap to TalkTalk as soon as possible? Hopefully we can answer some of these questions in this article.

Talk Talk is part of the Carphone Warehouse, they have been offering cheaper phone calls for a while now, but have now startled the industry by offering free broadband with one of their packages.

In order to get your free broadband you have to take up the Talk3 International Plan, this costs £20.99 a month for your telephone and the broadband.

Of the £20.99, £11 covers the TalkTalk line rental, which is exactly what you may already pay BT for your line rental. You need to already have a BT line, so now Talk Talk will handle your telephone line rental and send you all your bills, so all your home phone charges will be on one bill, which is handy. Talk Talk will also provide you with free voicemail, just like BT.

Of the £20.99, £9.99 covers the TalkTalk price plan, with this you get free calls to other Talk Talk customers, free unlimited anytime local and national UK landline calls. You also get free unlimited international telephone calls to nearly 30 countries, including all of Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Plus you also get your free broadband in the £20.99 price, this includes up to 8MB broadband, a 40GB download limit per month which is the equivalent to 8,000 tunes or 8,000 photos taken with a 5 mega pixel camera and you get a free modem, cables and software and apparently it’s easy to install.

TalkTalk also provide 15MB of storage space and they can provide you with 5 Talk Talk email accounts.

Now for the bad news, Talk Talk charge a one-off £29.99 connection fee. This is a contribution to the cost of transferring your line from BT to TalkTalk.

Also you may not be able to receive 8MB Broadband as a lot of the BT exchanges may only be able to provide you with a 1MB line, this all depends upon your local BT exchange and how close you live to it. Talk Talk say they will always provide you with the fastest connection possible.

There are also recommend specifications for you PC or Apple Mac, these include for the PC a 200MHz processor, 150MB Hard Drive space, CDROM drive, Windows 98SE, ME or XP and a spare USB port. For the Mac you will require 100MB spare Hard Drive space, Mac OS 8.6 or higher, spare USB port, CDROM drive and a 200MHz processor or better.

If you are an existing Talk Talk customer you can also upgrade your package to easily benefit from the free broadband offer.

The free broadband or international plan is not available to everybody, but if TalkTalk cannot offer you this plan then they will provide you with up an 8MB broadband connection for only £10 a month, which is also very good.

So all in all it looks a good deal, especially if you use broadband a lot at home and also make a lot of phone calls, as now most of your calls will be free. It is about time a company challenged the BT stronghold, as I always thought that BT charge too much for their line rental and you get nothing for it, but if you want broadband in your home and you cannot get cable, then you really have no choice but BT, but now you do with TalkTalk.

Lets hope that many other companies will now take note and start to drop their prices as well.
